Cover cropping mixtures provide a good break crop in between two cash crops. These mixtures have a diverse rooting depth, which will encourage better soil and root structure. The plants, when in flower, attract predator insects such as hoverflies and lacewings, which can control some pests such as aphids and mites. This reduces the use of insecticides and the impact on the environment. These cover crops also provide organic matter when disced or ploughed back in as the crop has thick ground cover, which will increase soil structure and reduce the weed burden.
