AWARD WINNING SILAGE AT EASTER HOWGATE
We followed up with James Marshall at SRUC Easter Howgate who won the beef section in the AgriScot Silage Competition.
James Biggar now leads the family farming business comprised of Messrs James Biggar at Grange and Chapelton, Castle Douglas. He is the sixth generation to produce pedigree and commercial stock, which are raised on a forage-based system producing around 30 pedigree bulls and 250 prime cattle a year.
Argaty is an upland livestock farm with around 340ha of farmed ground on the estate. The farming enterprise fits into and complements the long term vision of improving the environment for nature with their award-winning red kite project, red squirrel population and recent introduction of beavers.
