Management

Most of the fertiliser should be applied into the seedbed with a top up of nitrogen about a month later if the crop looks hungry. Stock should be introduced slowly over a two week period and should be strip grazed to make the most from it. Some varieties offer club root resistance and regrowth potential.

Impressed with the performance of Gorilla forage rape

“We have been very impressed with the performance of Gorilla forage rape, it’s not the tallest variety out there but provides plenty of forage for hungry mouths with high DM content. We typically sow towards the end of June which suits our requirements well for finishing lambs from October onwards.”

- Roderick MacKenzie, Balintore Farms, Tain.
