Michael Galvin manages 80 6500 litre Holstein Friesian cows. Good quality grass is the main component of his dairy herd’s diet. This is managed by rotational grazing and supplemented at times with a zero grazer. While the farm grows a lot of grass, it is next to a river and is prone to flooding. For this reason Michael places a strong emphasis on good silage and has a regular re- seeding programme. He has used many different mixtures over the years and has found Watson Seeds to be superior particularly the Mingary mixture which is ideal for his farm due its sward density yield and longevity.
