Italian Ryegrass is a biennial that usually completes its life cycle in 2 years. It is therefore commonly sown out in short term mixtures or sown straight on its own. It benefits from early spring growth and out yields perennial ryegrass. It has rapid establishment and growth vigour which allows it to be utilized in the year of sowing and can be used as a catch crop. Although it can be grazed it has fewer tillers and is more suited to conservation. Production is better in the first year and tends to be lower in the second. It is less winter hardy than perennial ryegrass.
Sowing rate 14kg/acre
